چکیده

We systematically examine corrections to the gravitational inverse square law, which are due to compactified extra dimensions, and to higher-derivative R 2-terms in the effective gravitational action. We find that both induce Yukawa-type potentials for which we calculate the strength α and range. In general the range of the Yukawa correction is given by the wavelength of the lightest Kaluza–Klein state and its strength, relative to the standard gravitational potential, by the corresponding degeneracy. In particular, when n extra dimensions are compactified on an n-torus, we find that the strength of the potential is α = 2n, whereas the compactification on an n-sphere gives α = n + 1. For Calabi–Yau compactifications the strength can be at most α = 20. Finally, when higher-derivative terms in four space-time dimensions are considered, we find a repulsive Yukawa potential with α = −1.

Newton’s law in braneworlds with an infinite extra dimension

We study the behavior of the four−dimensional Newton’s law in warped braneworlds. The setup considered here is a (3 + n)-brane embedded in (5 + n) dimensions, where n extra dimensions are compactified and a dimension is infinite. We show that the wave function of gravity is described in terms of the Bessel functions of (2+n/2)-order and that estimate the correction to Newton’s law. In particula...

Correction terms to Newton law due to induced gravity in AdS background

We calculate small correction terms to gravitational potential on RandallSundrum brane with an induced Einstein term. The behaviors of the correction terms depend on the magnitudes of AdS radius k−1 and a characteristic length scale λ of model. We present the gravitational potential for arbitrary k and λ at all distances. ∗E-mail address: [email protected] 1 Braneworld is based on t...

Higher Dimensional Operators or Large Extra Dimensions?

We deform gravity with higher curvature terms in four dimensions and argue that the non-relativistic limit is of the same form as the non-relativistic limit of the theories with large extra dimensions. Therefore the experiments that perform sub-millimeter tests of inverse-square law cannot distinguish the effects of large extra dimensions from the effects of higher dimensional operators. In oth...
